The After Dark Committee is proud to present the 6th Annual After Dark – Race for the Park 8K and the After Dark – Kids for the Park one miler for children under 12. Both races serve as a benefit for Dogwood Park. The Race for the Park’s mission is to facilitate the community’s involvement in the growth and development of Dogwood Park, while encouraging the citizens of Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland region to improve their health through regular exercise.
After serving on the master planning committee for the Dogwood Park expansion, Abby (Bates) Williams and her husband, former City Councilman and current State Representative Ryan Williams, conceived the idea to start the After Dark series of events. “Our goal is to create a fundraising series that reaches across the entire community, and we are grateful to the sponsors of this event and all our volunteers for helping make this race a reality,” said Williams. “It is an enjoyable, affordable event where the community can support the park, and at the same time promote fitness and health.”
Both the Kids for the Park and the Race for the Park will be held Friday, Aug. 9th, at Cookeville’s Dogwood Park. The Kids race will start at 7:28 p.m. (CST) and will finish in the Park, while the road race will begin at 8:58 p.m. The Kids race is for children 4-12 and the 8K run is for ages 13 and up. The race routes will feature luminaries along the spine of the figure eight down Historic Dixie Avenue. The nonrefundable fees for the Race for the Park are $30 for early registration and $35 after the deadline or the day of the race. There is no fee for the Kids race; however, in order to receive your free youth-size T-shirt, the Kids race registration form must be completed by the early deadline. Early registration deadline for both events is July 28th.
